King Charles gives rare update on health after cancer diagnosis



King Charles III said his health has improved significantly during a candid conversation with a cancer survivor.

“I asked him how he was, and he said he was feeling a lot better now and that it was ‘just one of those things,’” the monarch, who was diagnosed with cancer last year, told Lee Harman Tuesday during a walkabout in Newmarket, England, with his wife, Queen Camilla, per Hello! magazine.

Harman, 54, said he told Charles, 76, about how he overcame his own battle with cancer.

On Tuesday, the monarch, who was diagnosed with cancer last year, spoke about how he was doing to a local while on a walkabout in Newmarket, England, with his wife, Queen Camilla. REUTERS

“He asked me how I was and I said, ‘I’m all good, I got the all clear from cancer last year,’” the local recalled.

In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer after he underwent surgery to treat a benign enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” a statement from Buckingham Palace read in part.

Officials have not disclosed what specific form of cancer the dad of two was diagnosed with.

In March, Charles was hospitalized for side effects from his cancer treatment.

As a result, the king took a step back from his royal engagements; however, the following month, he returned to work.

On April 1, Charles appeared to be in good spirits as he presided over an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle in England.

While the sovereign has rarely spoken out about his health since his diagnosis, in May, his aide shared how Charles was handling his illness while continuing to work. 

“The thing you learn about this illness is that you just manage it, and that’s what he does,” the anonymous aide told the Telegraph at the time. 

“Medical science has made incredible advances, and I genuinely see no difference in him. As long as you just do what the doctors say, just live your life as normal as possible. That’s exactly what he is doing.”
