Kelly Ripa Recalls Being “Loaded” And Holding “Two Flaming Torches” While Skiing During A 2012 ‘Live’ Segment

Kelly Ripa recently shared a skiing story that is one for the books—and Live with Kelly and Mark fans got some video evidence on this morning’s episode.

On Wednesday, Ripa reminded viewers of a story she told on Tuesday’s (Jan. 6) episode, about an on-air skiing segment shot on location in Banff.

“Yesterday I told a story about the time that [Live EP Michael] Gelman used to run a real reckless ship around here,” she joked. “It’s not like now with rules and regulations. We have HR now. Who even knew that existed?”

Ripa teased that “Gelman dragged [her] up a mountain and got [her] drunk, and then handed [her] two flaming torches, and told [her] to ski down the mountain with them” for the segment, which originally aired on April 5, 2012.

“Now again, back in 2012, I had not yet advanced to being a terrible skier,” she quipped. “Now I’m just a regular terrible skier. But back then, I was a dangerous, reckless skier who could potentially harm myself and others. And Gelman said, ‘I don’t care. This is too good, we’re putting it on TV.’ And you found the footage.”

Live viewers got the chance to see clips from the 2012 segment, which not only featured a dance party with glow sticks with Mark Consuelos also in attendance, but footage of Ripa and several others skiing, with many holding torches. However, Ripa did not appear to be holding torches in the footage shown.

“I did have torches! Where is my torch footage?” she asked on Wednesday.

Consuelos replied, “Apparently you didn’t.”

While Ripa insisted that she “did have torches,” Consuelos clapped back, “No, you were torched, for sure.”

“You were torched. I remember that,” he added. “I remember telling you, ‘Sweetheart, be careful going down the hill.’”

After Ripa teased “that is Gelman protecting himself,” Consuelos continued sharing his side of the story.

“I said ‘Be careful,’ and you got angry with me,” he remembered, before imitating Ripa slurring her words. “‘Don’t tell me what to do down this hill.’”

Consuelos said he skied down behind Ripa, claiming he was “blocking traffic.” Ripa concluded that “the best way to ski well is to be totally unaware.”

“For the first time ever—because it was dark, because there was a camera light in my face, I was really sort of blinded,” she noted.

Consuelos chimed in, “You skied freely.”

Ripa continued, “And I skied without the knowledge of where the edge of the mountain was, or where the scary trees are.”

Consuelos attempted to give his wife and co-host the benefit of the doubt, telling her she wasn’t “loaded” but was “just a little tipsy.” However, Ripa begged to differ.

“No, I’m pretty sure I was loaded because I don’t really remember,” she said. “It’s like when you look at a photo of yourself as a two-year-old and you’re like, ‘Oh, I remember that!’ No you don’t. You remember the photo of it. I remember that because we have video of it. But I don’t remember doing it.”
