Keith Urban changed song lyric about Nicole Kidman to reference guitar player
Keith Urban swapped out a romantic song lyric about Nicole Kidman just days before the actress filed for divorce.
During a recent concert, Urban, 57, was performing his 2017 song “The Fighter,” featuring Carrie Underwood, that was inspired by his romance with Kidman, 58. But Urban decided to change one of the lyrics about his recently-estranged wife to reference his utility player, Maggie Baugh, who was on stage with him.

The original lyric is: “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter.”
But Urban instead sang: “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”
Baugh, 25, shared an Instagram clip of the moment on Sept. 26, three days before news of Urban and Kidman’s split, and wrote in her caption, “Did he just say that👀.”
Back in 2016, Urban released a video shot with his own camera of him and Kidman in the car singing to “The Fighter.”
“Oh my god, I love this song!” Kidman said, as Urban replied, “Thank goodness.” Urban then serenaded Kidman with the love anthem before the couple hugged at the end of the song.
Urban told Billboard in March 2017 how Kidman inspired the lyrics to “The Fighter.”
“It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her,” the country singer shared. “The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.”
Urban and Kidman were married for 19 years before their sudden split.
The “Babygirl” actress filed for divorce in Nashville on Tuesday, three months after they were last seen in public together.
Court documents obtained by The Post revealed that Kidman cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. She listed the pair’s date of separation as “date of filing,” which was Sept. 30.
TMZ reported that the exes hashed out a parenting plan that involves their daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, spending 306 days with their mom and 59 days with their dad. Kidman and Urban also reportedly agreed that they will make all major decisions about the girls jointly.
Kidman and Urban, who tied the knot in 2006, reportedly separated in June and have been living apart since.
Sources claim Kidman “feels very betrayed” by Urban, who has allegedly moved out of their family home in Nashville and is already rumored to be seeing another woman.
“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” a source told People. “It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.”
Another insider told the outlet that the Oscar winner “didn’t want” the separation and “has been fighting to save the marriage.”
Neither star has publicly spoken out about the split.
In June, Kidman marked her and Urban’s 19-year wedding anniversary with a sweet Instagram post. She shared a black-and-white shot of them cuddling, with the caption, “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️.”
Urban, meanwhile, did not post about the pair’s anniversary.
