Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau share ‘a lot in common,’ had ‘instant connection’: source

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau reportedly saw fireworks when they first met.

The pop star, 40, and Canadian politician, 53, had an “instant connection,” a source told People Saturday.

“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the insider confirmed before highlighting some of the roadblocks the potential relationship faces.

“She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada,” the source said, but then pointed out, “There is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”

“Music is one of many things they can share,” the insider continued to dish, noting that the “Lifetimes” singer and former prime minister also share an optimistic outlook.

“Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult,” the source added.

In addition to their busy schedules, the insider explained that Perry and Trudeau’s respective responsibilities as newly single parents could also take a toll.

Trudeau separated from his wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The former couple shares three children: sons Xavier, 17, and Hadrien, 11, and daughter Ella-Grace, 16.

Perry, for her part, is mom to 4-year-old daughter, Daisy, whom she shares with ex Orlando Bloom.

People’s source said that although having children could make the new romance grow more slowly, it is an advantage that both Perry and Trudeau have exes who are present in their kids’ lives.

“For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two,” the insider told the outlet.

Reps for the stars did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Perry and Trudeau first sparked romance rumors this week after they were spotted dining together at a restaurant in Montreal.

The two were spotted in photos obtained by TMZ sitting across from another at a table. They were also seen going on a romantic stroll with Perry’s dog “Nugget” for about an hour. There was no PDA, though.

A few days later, Trudeau was seen front and center at Perry’s “Lifetimes” concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre, supporting the songstress and cheering her on.

An insider who worked with Trudeau while he was in office recently gave the US Sun insight into how Perry and Trudeau came into contact after meeting at an event.

“Justin always enjoys nice company, and Katy is the kind of woman that really caught his attention,” the source told the outlet.

“Justin has been single for a while and has enjoyed getting to know her,” the source added.

Rumors of Perry and Bloom’s breakup first surfaced last month, shortly after Page Six had exclusively learned that the duo was experiencing relationship troubles.

In July, the exes confirmed their split in a joint statement after 10 years together.
