Kate Middleton used a ‘clever’ hairstyling trick to secure her latest royal tiara

Kate Middleton used a “clever” trick to make sure her massive tiara stayed on all night as she hosted a state banquet at Windsor Castle this week.

A photo showing the back of the princess’ head revealed Middleton, 43, had tied her hair in a knot to secure the headpiece on top of her head. This helped secure her sparkling regal accessory while entertaining the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Ms. Elke Büdenbender, on their state visit.

The Princess of Wales’ fans took to social media on Wednesday night to collectively admire Middleton’s look and her savvy hairstylist.

“I always marvel at how the Tiaras stay fixed on the royal ladies heads, especially when it is a bigger piece like the one Catherine wore tonight,” reads one X post showing the princess’ look.

“Thank you for the view of the back and the clever way the tiara was secured with her hair. It’s Dan[sic] incredible piece,” a fan wrote on X.

“Her hairdresser works magic,” another replied. “I love when they do an up do for [her royal highness] Catherine.”

A third netizen added: “It’s fascinating how flawlessly they secure these grand tiaras. Catherine’s elegant hair knot tonight was a masterclass — perfectly holding that stunning heirloom in place.”

On Wednesday night, Middleton made a splash when she attended the regal white-tie banquet wearing Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet.

According to longtime royal jewelers, Garrard, the tiara was “crafted for Queen Victoria in 1853 under the direction of her beloved husband and consort, Prince Albert.”

“The Oriental Circlet was originally set with a collection of opals, one of Albert’s favourite gemstones, and 2,600 diamonds. Later, believing that opals were unlucky, Queen Alexandra replaced them with rubies.”

The outing marks the first time the heirloom has been worn in public in 20 years.

The Queen Mother and Queen Elizabeth have previously worn the crown. Though the late Queen, who died on Sep. 8, 2022, wore it only once during her reign, on a 2005 trip to Malta.

The princess completed her royal look with a custom glittering blue cape gown by British designer Jenny Packham, which she paired with silver Gianvito Rossi Rania pumps in silver-silk organza ($2,695).

She accessorized with the Bespoke Maud Clutch in black satin from Anya Hindmarch ($775) and chandelier diamond earrings that originally belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth.

For a final touch, she also wore the Royal Family Order and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star.
