Kal Penn Tells Andy Cohen His First Thoughts After Reading ‘Industry’ Script: “Why Can’t I Get Naked?”
Longtime Industry fan Kal Penn was “very excited” when he was offered a role in the show’s fourth season — but there’s something he wishes his character could’ve done.
On Monday night’s (Jan. 12) episode of Watch What Happens Live, Penn stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse alongside Below Deck Mediterranean’s Chef Josh Bingham for a night of probing questions, Shag Roulette, and Bravo hot takes. Of course, he was there to promote Industry Season 4 — in which he plays Tender CEO Jay Jonah Atterbury — so they did talk a little bit about the new installment.

“How fun [was it] to join this cast? You must have been very psyched,” host Andy Cohen said.
Penn replied, “[I was] very excited. I was a fan of the show the first three seasons, so when I got this phone call that’s like, ‘There’s a little arc in Season 4,’ I said yes before reading the script.”
When the actor’s agent urged him to read the script before accepting the role, he worried that it meant he would have to partake in nudity.
“My agent was like, ‘You should read the script,’” he recalled. “I was like, ‘Does this mean I have to get naked?’ And then I was like, ‘I’ll read the script.’”

“I read the script and I did not have to get naked and I was like, ‘Why can’t I get naked?’” Penn joked.
The HBO series, which began airing in 2020, follows a group of determined graduates as they enter the cutthroat international investment banking industry in London. Penn isn’t the only new face to join Season 4, as Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Kiernan Shipka, and Ted Lasso’s Toheeb Jimoh also signed onto the series.
Not only did Shipka and Heaton join Season 4, but they also got to open the first episode.
“Opening the season was, like, fucking crazy! Sorry, pardon my French,” Shipka told DECIDER in a recent interview. “But like, it was so cool. It felt so cool. I was so excited.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
