“I said, ‘We have got to get him to the hospital,’ because if he dies in my house, I’m going to prison for the rest of my life,” he recalled to Variety. “I will never be able to explain this as anything other than a murder.”

Kimmel said that he and Damon’s brother found a solution on YouTube — eating little bits of bread slowly to get the rib to go down into Damon’s stomach.

Kimmel noted that the bread actually “saved him.”

“We tried the Heimlich many times,” he shared. “It was too far down.”

Kimmel, 57, and Damon, 54, are close friends and have also been in a long-running “feud” in which they publicly trade insults.

The faux feud began in 2006 when Kimmel off-handedly joked that he’d bumped the Oscar-winning actor from an episode of his talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

“We had a bad show … The guests were bad, and I was feeling pretty bad about myself at the end of the program,” Kimmel told NPR in 2013.

“And I decided to say, for the amusement of one of our producers who was standing next to me, ‘I want to apologize to Matt Damon. We ran out of time.’ And he got a kick out of it, the producer, so I just started doing it every night to amuse him.”

Kimmel shared that he randomly picked Damon at the moment.

“I was trying to think of an A-list star, and somebody we absolutely would not bump if he was on the show,” he explained.

“People laugh every time I say it,” he added. “Repeating the same joke every single night, you’d think eventually people would get tired of it, but they don’t.”
