Jerry Jones not confident Micah Parsons will play in Cowboys’ season opener

Jerry Jones isn’t sure Micah Parsons will be on the field for the start of the Cowboys’ 2025 season.

Parsons was on hand for the Cowboys’ joint practice with the Rams on Tuesday, but did not speak with Jones — the two have not talked since he requested a trade last Friday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The team owner/general manager later expressed doubt the star linebacker would be there on Sept. 4 when Dallas kicks off the 2025 season against the Eagles after his trade request last week.

“No, absolutely not,” Jones responded when he was asked if he was confident that Parsons play in the Cowboys’ season opener.

“A big part of that is his decision. How would I know that? I’m just saying. No, but I’m urgent. … We will work through it or we will not work through it.”

It seems that Parsons will continue to stay with the team in Oxnard and continue to be there for team practices and meetings.

Though he could make the decision to leave camp, but he would be incurring a daily fine of $50,000 if he were to do that.

The two sides have continued to be in a stalemate over contract negotiations and Jones told reporters that he thought he had a deal with Parsons based on eye contact and a hand shake, and admitted that nothing was put on paper.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has seemed more optimistic about something getting done and Parsons being on the field come the first game of the year..

“We’re still planning on moving Micah around and putting him in all the spots that we see him and using our fronts the way we want to see it,” Schottenheimer said. “We go about our business every day. We live in the moment. We focus on the moment. Like I said the other day, I expect Micah to be here.”

The clock continues to tick as the season approaches, and a key piece of the Cowboys’ defense may not be there when the kickoff occurs for their Week 1 matchup.
