Jerry Jones jokes with Micah Parsons’ mother about Cowboys saga
For all of the tense contract negotiations and verbal sparring in the ongoing Micah Parsons saga, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Sherese Parsons — the star’s mother — shared a light-hearted exchange at Dallas’ preseason game Friday.
As Jones appeared to be interacting with fans, he turned around at one point, spotted Sherese — wearing a No. 11 jersey with Parsons’ name on the back — and gave her a hug, before joking, “Now, Micah, why aren’t you out there playing? You act like you want some money or something.”

The pair then posed for a picture, which Parsons’ brother, Terrence, posted on X.
“Jerry trying his hardest,” Terrence wrote, with a crying laughing emoji tacked to the end.
The scene unfolded on the same night in which Parsons generated plenty of attention for his antics at AT&T Stadium despite not playing in the Cowboys’ final preseason game against the Falcons.
He was spotted eating nachos before the game and then resting on a medical table during the game, with the latter prompting Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer to tell reporters the next day that he planned to talk with Parsons about the behavior.
“Without talking to Micah, I need to figure out what he was doing and why he was doing it,” Schottenheimer told reporters Saturday. “So until I talk to him, I’m obviously not going to talk about it.”
Parsons has been a hold-in at the Cowboys’ training camp this year as he seeks a new contract, with his rookie deal — which would pay him $24 million in 2025 — set to expire following the season.
He requested a trade Aug. 1, writing in a lengthy statement that he no longer wants to play for the Cowboys.
Jones called any talk of Dallas potentially trading Parsons — the 26-year-old who recorded 12 sacks last season and 52 ½ across his four-year career — “BS,” and the Cowboys could use the franchise tag on Parsons to keep him under team control for 2026 and 2027.
He also claimed that Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, told them to stick an offer “up our ass” at one point, though analyst Ryan Clark, after speaking with Mulugheta, pushed back on that statement — calling it “all bullcrap” and “all lies” in a video posted to X.
Parsons has also reportedly dealt with back tightness throughout training camp, and while it could just be a negotiating tactic and part of the hold-in, he underwent an MRI on Friday that came back “pretty clean,” Schottenheimer told reporters Sunday.
The Cowboys, who finished the 2024 campaign with a disappointing 7-10 record, open the season Sept. 4 at the Eagles.
