“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce is also finalized with Ben …” host Craig Melvin began before the singer let out an uncomfortable laugh.
She then turned to look at the production team behind the cameras, seemingly pointing out Melvin’s audacity and saying, “There you go. Look at this guy!”
Embarassed, Melvin tried to rectify the situation by noting, “But then I hear that your ex is an executive producer on the film …”
“He is,” Lopez, 56, confirmed before praising her ex-husband.
“If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have got made, and I will always give him that credit,” she said more seriously before referencing their divorce, “Things happen. You have to keep going.”
Despite working with Affleck on the film, the Grammy nominee admitted that the musical helped her “survive” a “difficult” time in her life.
“But it’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives. And doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well.”
“It sounds like [the film] may have helped save you,” Melvin said, which she confirmed, “It did.”
Lopez’s comments about Affleck come a little over a year after she filed for divorce on their short union.
The former couple first crossed paths in 2001 while filming “Gigli” before going on to date a year later and getting engaged. However, by 2004, they went their separate ways.
The A-listers then sent fans into a frenzy in 2021 when they reignited their romance. For two decades, they had led completely separate lives and even welcomed children with other spouses.
They then got married in July 2022 in a Vegas ceremony before hosting a bigger wedding in Georgia a month later.
After Affleck was spotted looking miserable on different outings with Lopez, the singer filed for divorce on Aug. 20, 2024. At the time, the “Gone Girl” actor had moved out of their home, and they were living separate lives.
They finalized their divorce six months later.
Last month, a source claimed that the exes “have stayed on friendly terms” since their breakup.
“Things between Ben and Jennifer are good even though they’re not together anymore,” a source told People on Sept. 8.
The insider also claimed that the duo “plan to stay in each other’s lives” since “the most important thing to both of them is raising their kids in a supportive environment.”
Lopez shares twins named Emme and Max, 17, with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck shares Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
The “On The Floor” songstress also made headlines last month for for shopping with her ex-husband’s youngest child in Beverly Hills, Calif.
“The kids are still really close,” the outlet reported. “They have the same groups of friends, they see each other and they talk all the time.”
They also claimed Lopez and Affleck “make sure the kids know they get along.”
