“They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes,” she said.
Aniston, 56, furthered that her medical matters are “not anybody’s business.”
“But there comes a point when you can’t not hear it – the narrative about how I won’t have a baby, won’t have a family, because I’m selfish, a workaholic,” she continued.
Aniston admitted that she is affected by the rumors, adding that she’s “just a human being.”
“We’re all human beings. That’s why I thought, ‘What the hell?’” she said.
Aniston — who famously slammed the media in a 2016 op-ed published by Huffington Post — doesn’t always feel compelled to shut down false rumors about herself because she knows the truth.
“The news cycle is so fast, it just goes away,” she explained. “Of course, there are times when I feel that sense of justice – when something has been said that isn’t true and I need to right the wrong.”
“And then I think, ‘Do I really?’ My family knows my truth, my friends know my truth.”
The “Bruce Almighty” actress reflected on her decision to ultimately share with the public in 2022 that she and Brad Pitt had been trying for a family via IVF back when they were together.
“Because I knew a lot of women at the time who were trying to have kids, who were dealing with IVF. So it did feel like it was not only for myself, but for any women who were struggling with the same issue,” she said.
Aniston spoke about her fertility struggle in a December 2022 cover story for Allure.
“If it wasn’t for going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be. That’s why I have such gratitude for all those s–tty things,” she said at the time, clarifying that she was “trying to get pregnant” several years ago.
Aniston said that despite media speculation that she had no interest in being a mom, she had been “going through IVF [and] drinking Chinese teas” for years in an attempt to get pregnant.
“I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed,” she said.
Aniston did say that she is at peace now that she can move on.
“There is no more, ‘Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.’ I don’t have to think about that anymore,” she said.
The “Morning Show” star was married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005 and Justin Theroux from 2015 to 2017.
