Jaxson Dart’s first Giants training camp throw couldn’t have gone worse
If you’re a big believer in omens, don’t look.

The No. 25 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, Dart could only watch as Jones raced up the field in revelry.
“I just felt like I could beat him with the throw,” Dart told The Athletic. “Obviously going back you want to try to put it a little on the outside shoulder. That’s just the closing speed of the NFL. You do your best to try to get used to it because there are a lot of really, really good athletes out here. It’s definitely something to learn from, but we’ll get better from it and move forward.”
Of course, if you are indeed a believer in omens and didn’t heed the “don’t watch” warning, Dart offered up another one just two plays later, finding tight end Theo Johnson for a touchdown.
As the hopeful franchise QB-in-waiting, Dart has time to make mistakes, with Russell Wilson officially tabbed as the starter entering training camp.
Still, the rookie playing for his role on the depth chart, battling it out with veteran Jameis Winston for the No. 2 spot behind Wilson.
“We’re going to go out here and practice and the guys are going to compete,” head coach Brian Daboll said when asked if the No. 2 job is up for grabs. “The roster will be set when the roster is set.”
The Giants traded back into the first round to snag the 22-year-old after a standout three years at Ole Miss — coming after his 2021 freshman year at USC — with big hope of finally finding the heir to Eli Manning’s long-vacant QB seat.
While GM Joe Schoen has been adamant the franchise will be patient with Dart, the young QB is already showing his resilience.
“He’s got a good head on his shoulders,” Wilson said. “Jax sits next to me in the meeting rooms so we get to talk a lot. I really like him. He’s definitely asked a lot of questions and I’m not one to hold back. I just give all my thoughts.”
