Jaxson Dart tells The Post how Mike Kafka is mentoring him



Earlier in his coaching career, Mike Kafka was a member of the Chiefs staff while a prized rookie quarterback did not play for most of his first season in the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes went on to become the MVP of the league by his second year — and a Super Bowl champion by Year 4 — after Kafka was promoted to Kansas City’s quarterbacks coach before becoming the Giants offensive coordinator in 2022.

“That was one of my first questions when I met [Kafka] in this whole draft process, what it was like in his development with Pat,” Giants first-round pick Jaxson Dart told The Post after Thursday’s practice ahead of Sunday night’s game against the Chiefs. “Those are things that I’ve been discussing with [Kafka] since the first time I ever met him. He did a great job with that, and I think he saw — and I think Pat would say it, too — having a big jump from having that time to learn.”

Mahomes, the 10th pick out of Texas Tech in 2017, mostly sat behind veteran quarterback Alex Smith as a rookie, throwing for 284 yards in his lone appearance late in the regular season.
