‘Jack Reacher’ Season 4: Jay Baruchel Just Quit The Series After Filming Had Already Begun, Will Be Replaced By Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette

As production on Reacher Season 4 is underway, a casting switch-up has taken place.

Deadline reports that Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette (Just Friends, RZR) has joined the Season 4 cast as small-town policeman Jacob Merrick, a role originally landed by BlackBerry star Jay Baruchel. According to the outlet, Baruchel had to step back due to a personal matter, and Rodriguez-Marquette was reportedly cast the same day the part opened up.

DECIDER reached out to Prime Video for comment.

Baruchel had been one of eight new additions to the hit action series revealed earlier this month, alongside Sydelle Noel, Agnez Mo, Anggun, Kevin Weisman, Marc Blucas, Kevin Corrigan, and Kathleen Robertson, per Variety.

In a June 12 Instagram post featuring series star Alan Ritchson, the premise for Season 4 was announced as Lee Child‘s Gone Tomorrow, which was published in 2009. The day before (June 11), an Instagram post arrived teasing a Reacher Season 4 script atop a subway seat.

Reacher‘s upcoming installment was renewed back in October 2024. Just over a week before the announcement, news broke that Prime Video had ordered a spin-off titled Neagley, focused on Maria Sten‘s Frances Neagley. Alongside Sten, Greyston Holt, Jasper Jones, Adeline Rudolph, Matthew Del Negro, and Damon Herriman will all star, per Variety.

Season 3, which welcomed Anthony Michael Hall to the cast as Zachary Beck and was based on Child’s 2003 novel Persuasion, debuted on Prime Video in February 2025. While speaking with DECIDER‘s Samantha Nungesser, Hall explained that he enjoyed taking on a darker role in Reacher.

“When I was growing up, Samantha, a lot of my favorite actors still are, like, Jack Nicholson or even Christopher Walken, people that could go light to dark,” he shared. “But it’s also, I think, important to inject some humor into the character. So when I play villains, it is a lot of fun. You can kind of just really go for it and let it all hang out and then hopefully insert some humor and some lighter moments too.”

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
