Is the Sydney Sweeney and Halsey Movie ‘Americana’ Streaming on Netflix or HBO Max?

How far would you go to obtain a shirt? What if it was a really cool, super special shirt? That’s the question at the heart of the new Sydney Sweeney movie, Americana, which opens in theaters this weekend.

Written and directed by Tony Tost, this Western-inspired crime thriller first premiered at South by Southwest Film Festival in 2023, to mostly positive reviews. Now, the movie is finally coming to the big screen for mainstream audiences. Sweeney stars as Penny Jo Poplin, a waitress in South Dakota who teams up with a military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) to track down a valuable Native American artifact on the black market: a Ghost Shirt. But they aren’t the only ones after the shirt.

Also starring Halsey, Eric Dane, Zahn McClarnon, and Simon Rex, Americana sounds like the perfect fun, fast-paced thriller to close out the 2025 summer movie season. Read on to find out where to watch Americana, and when we expect to be able to watch the Americana movie on streaming.

For now, Americana will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in theaters in the U.S. on Friday, August 15. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Americana is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.

Is the Americana movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Americana is not streaming on Netflix right now. That said, Americana is a Lionsgate release, and another recent Lionsgate release, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, began streaming on Netflix after two-and-a-half-months in theaters. However, that seems to be the exception, because all the Lionsgate movies following Den of Thieves 2 have not streamed on Netflix. So most likely, Americana will not be streaming on Netflix anytime soon.

You will be able to purchase Americana on Amazon Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital. You also might be able to stream Americana on Prime for free eventually, thanks to the new deal between Lionsgate and Amazon that will send the 2026 Lionsgate movies to Amazon Prime for the “Pay 1” window, after the films play in theaters. Even though it’s still 2025, according to Variety, Prime Video also got the streaming rights to a “package” of 2025 films, too. It’s not clear which films those are, and if it includes Americana. But it’s possible that Amazon subscribers will be able to stream Americana for free on Prime before the end of the year.

Is the Americana movie streaming on Starz?

Americana is not yet streaming on Starz. You might see Americana on Starz later this year, because it is a Lionsgate film, and Lionsgate extended its output deal with Starz, despite the fact the studios are still planning to separate in 2026. Supposedly, under the new terms of the deal, Starz will have exclusive rights to Lionsgate films post-theaters, and that the window will now come sooner after the movie’s theatrical run.

Starz typically costs $10.99/month, but right now, you can subscribe and get your first three months for $4.99/month. Additionally, you can prepay for $29.99 for 12 months of Starz and save $40.

In practice, the recent Lionsgate films don’t seem to be streaming on Starz at an accelerated rate. The 2025 Lionsgate film Den of Thieves 2: Pantera began streaming on Netflix about two-and-a-half months after opening in theaters, and yet the movie is still not streaming on Starz. So, that’s confusing! The 2025 Lionsgate movie The Unbreakable Boy is set to begin streaming on Starz on November 1, about nine months after the movie opened in the theaters. If Americana follows the same release pattern, you might see the movie on Starz in about nine months, which would be around May 2026.

But clearly, not all Lionsgate movies are following that strategy in 2025, and some may be going to Prime instead of Starz. Right now, we don’t have a clear look at Lionsgate’s 2025 release strategy. If you want to see Americana right away, you should go watch it in a movie theater.
