Is the Emma Stone Movie ‘Bugonia’ Streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?
Filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and star Emma Stone are once again getting weird with it via Bugonia, a new absurd dark comedy that opens wide in theaters this weekend.
Bugonia is the fourth feature film collaboration between Lanthimos and Stone, who first worked together on The Favourite in 2018, and then teamed up again for 2023’s Poor Things and 2024’s Kinds of Kindness. These two simply don’t rest! Directed by Lanthimos, with a screenplay written by Will Tracy, Bugonia is a remake of the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy, Save the Green Planet! from director Jang Joon-hwan. Stone stars as a high-powered pharma CEO named Michelle, who is abducted by a crazy conspiracy theorist named Teddy (Jesse Plemons) and his neurodivergent cousin Don (Adian Delbis). The two cousins are convinced Michelle is a secret alien. And honestly? They might be right.

Also starring Stavros Halkias and Alicia Silverstone, Bugonia sounds like the kind of wacky film that fans of Lanthimos have come to know and love. It’s sure to be a hoot on the big screen, but if you’d rather wait to watch it at home, here’s when we expect to be able to watch Bugonia on streaming.

Where to watch the new Emma Stone movie Bugonia:
The Bugonia movie is only be available to watch in a movie theater right now. The film will open wide in U.S. theaters on Friday, October 31. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Bugonia is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is the Bugonia movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime?
Bugonia is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Focus Features release. Focus Features is a subsidiary of Universal Studios, and almost all Universal movies go to the Universal-owned streaming platform, Peacock.
You will be able to purchase Bugonia on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital. You will eventually be able to stream Anemone on Prime Video, free with a Prime subscription, four months after the movie streams on Peacock. This is thanks to the deal between Universal and Amazon that sends Universal movies to Peacock for the first four months of the “Pay 1 window,” then to Amazon Prime Video for the next months of the window, followed by four more months on Peacock. If our prediction for when Bugonia will be on Peacock is correct, then you should see Bugonia streaming on Prime around June or July 2026.
But the first place you’ll be able watch Bugonia movie at home will be to buy or rent on digital platforms, followed by a streaming release on Peacock.
Peacock currently offers two subscription types: Premium with ads and Premium Plus ad-free. Peacock Premium costs $10.99/month, while Premium Plus costs $16.99/month.
You can save a bit by subscribing to one of Peacock’s annual plans, which give you 12 months for the price of 10. These cost either $109.99 with ads or $169.99 without ads.
Peacock Premium Plus is also available to subscribe to via Prime Video with a seven-day free trial that you can’t get by subscribing directly on Peacock.
When will the Bugonia movie be streaming on Peacock?
Bugonia is not yet streaming on Peacock. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Bugonia streaming on Peacock eventually, but we’re not sure when. Another Focus Features/Universal release, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, was released on digital after about one month in theaters, and it will begin streaming on Peacock about two months after opening in theaters.
If Bugonia follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital by late November or early December 2025, and streaming on Peacock around February 2025.
This is all speculation. Universal has not had a consistent release strategy for home media. If you want to watch the Bugonia movie right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
