Is Billy Bob Thornton Being Replaced On ‘Landman’ Season 3?
Will there be a Landman Season 3? And will Billy Bob Thornton be in Landman Season 3? Alright, we’re gonna stop you right there. Because what kind of questions are these? It’s no wildcat gamble to say Taylor Sheridan’s West Texas oil biz drama has been in a constant boom cycle ever since it premiered in 2024, and in December 2025, smack dab in the center of Season 2, Landman was officially renewed for a third season. Be assured: the landmania will continue for the foreseeable TV future.
But here’s another big question with a little bit murkier of an answer, if you saw Season 2 Episode 9 of Landman (“Plans, Tears and Sirens”). Is Billy Bob Thornton leaving Landman? Because things come to a head between M-Tex owner Cami Miller (Demi Moore) and company president Tommy Norris (Thornton) during a fancy viewing party for the big gas rig gamble Cami is launching into the Gulf of Mexico.

When Tommy, a veteran of many risks gone bad, tells his boss that going forward, his whole thing will be about avoiding risk, she tells him risk is what makes fortunes in the world of oil and gas. He’s like, “What are you saying?” And Cami lets it fly. “I’m saying you’re fired.”

So Cami fired Tommy on Landman. Does that mean Billy Bob Thornton is leaving the show?
No way! If you’re Taylor Sheridan, you don’t fire the landman whose name is right in the title. You don’t axe the character at the center of your smash hit show, and cancel the very actor for whom you wrote the role. Besides, Billy Bob Thornton has always said playing Tommy on Landman “fits like a glove.”
And it’s not just Thornton’s love for his character, or for working with Sheridan. The entire cast of Landman considers BBT a gift at the center of their work. “It’s so real and raw when you’re working with Billy Bob,” says Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris. And while we don’t know exactly what Sheridan has planned for the fallout from Tommy getting the boot, we suspect Cooper’s grip of oil patch leases – and his growing skill at being a landman just like his dad – will figure into Tommy’s next move.
And finally, if you’re wondering how Cami Miller firing Tommy Norris will play into the Season 2 finale of Landman, you won’t have long to wait. Episode 10 drops January 18th, and it’s sure to be a wild ride.
