Her sick crimes were uncovered after the sixth-grade victim’s mother noticed a change in her son’s behavior following a stay over at Bardfield’s home on March 29, 2024, according to court documents.

The mom went through her son’s phone and discovered $700 in CashApp payments from Bardfield, who was a substitute teacher for Decatur Public Schools at the time, the judge was told.

When she confronted her son, he told her he had unprotected sex with Bardfield at her house.

Initially accused of grooming, Bardfield admitted in her police interview to having sexual relations with the underage boy on one occasion, WICS reported.

The shameless educator accused the boy of initiating the twisted relationship, claiming the child had made sexual advances toward her that night.

As part of a plea deal, Bardfield, represented by counsel Ms. Sanders, offered to plead guilty to felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

The court found that, given the seriousness of her crimes, a probation sentence would be too lenient.

Bardfield will be subject to a three-year to life mandatory supervised release period, and must register as a sex offender for life.

She was given credit for time previously served in custody and is recommended for mental health treatment while in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
