The Fantastic Four: First Steps marks the third (and most successful) try in the past 25 years to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen, but for the first time, these iconic characters (including Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman) can exist inside the larger MCU — with this cast set to reprise their roles in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday team-up movie.

The new, 1960s-set movie follows the Fantastic Four — Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) — as they’re forced to protect the planet and their own family’s future from an otherworldly threat.

In her review of the film, DECIDER Senior Critic Meghan O’Keefe wrote, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps is everything Marvel needed it to be and more” and noted that the movie is “a love letter to the comics that launched the Marvel brand so many decades ago and a promise to fans that the MCU’s days are not numbered.”
