“Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story begins immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the phenomenon that is Guinness,” reads the show’s logline.
Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Fionn O’Shea and Emily Fairn will star as the Guinness children in question.
House of Guinness will take viewers back to 1860s Dublin during a politically fraught era when the Guinness siblings have the world at their fingertips.
As Knight put it, the Guinness siblings will be tasked with two things after the death of their father: “The first priority is: Don’t screw it up. And the second priority is to make Guinness even bigger,” he told Netflix’s Tudum.
Boyle and Partridge, who play brothers Arthur and Edward Guinness, will lead the story as the brewery’s new stewards, per their late father’s will.
“Before he died, their father very deliberately chained Arthur and Edward together in responsibility for the brewery. You’ll find out why when you watch,” Knight explained.
The cast is rounded out by James Norton, who plays Guinness foreman Sean Rafferty, Niamh McCormack as Ellen Cochrane, Seamus O’Hara as Patrick Cochrane, and Dervla Kirwan as Aunt Agnes Guinness.
House of Guinness is set to premiere on Netflix Monday, Sept. 25. All eight episodes will be available to stream.
