The standoff between authorities and the suspect was ongoing as of Monday morning with another person who is connected to the scene taken into custody, Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said.

Police initially responded to a vehicle left alone in the middle of the street and cleared the area to tow it around 7 a.m.

Minutes later, police were pinged with reports of gunshots in the same area and found a car that was “riddled with bullets,” he said.
The scene quickly turned to chaos when a gunman unleashed a hail of bullets, striking one officer in the knee and the other in the ankle, the top cop said.
Both wounded cops are in stable condition and in “good spirits,” Morales said.
The shooter is now barricaded inside a house, and at one point exchanged gunfire briefly with police, but no one appeared to be hit, he said.

Morales encouraged neighbors in the area to hunker down and other residents to stay away from the dangerous scene.
The suspected shooter’s identity was not revealed by cops, but said the gunman is someone they’ve dealt with in the past, Morales said.
Another person was taken into custody and is being questioned because he is “somehow related to the scene,” Morales said.
“We don’t know how yet,” he added.
