Grading a year’s worth of Yankees’ trade acquisitions



It was lost – as it should have been – in the haze of Aaron Judge’s best-ever playoff game and the Yankees saving a season Tuesday night.

But in a moment of reflection, part of the Yankees’ 9-6 triumph over the Blue Jays revolved around a batch of trades they made since the end of last season through the July 31 deadline.

Cody Bellinger had two hits and a walk. Amed Rosario doubled and scored a key insurance run. Jose Caballero made a diving stop and throw for the final out of Game 3. Fernando Cruz, Devin Williams, Camilo Doval and David Bednar were instrumental in the 6 2/3-inning shutout relief baton pass.

The Yankees were as active in the trade arena as any team in the offseason and again at the deadline and of that group the only true dud – to date – was the acquisition from Colorado of Jake Bird. He made three ill-fated appearances after being acquired July 31 before being sent to the minors not to be seen again.
