Giants legend Carl Banks rips Abdul Carter after second benching
Carl Banks played alongside an elite pass rusher who pushed the boundaries when it came to team rules in Lawrence Taylor, but even he knows Abdul Carter may be pushing the limits as a rookie with 1.5 sacks to his name.
The Giants legend ripped Carter, the No. 3 pick in the 2025 Draft, after his second benching Monday night in the 33-15 road loss to the Patriots, this time for missing part or all of a team responsibility.

Carter previously did not start against the Packers for not attending a walk-through before the Week 11 home loss to the Packers.
“It’s time for the kid to grow up,” Banks said Monday during WFAN’s game broadcast. “I don’t advocate teammates fighting with each other, but it just seems like if we’re just finding this out now, this has got to have been a pattern going on all year. You got to care enough. And that’s losing football. That’s a losing locker room. When you have these types of things, and you don’t care enough to be engaged, and you have to be disciplined twice — how many other times has this happened and they just kind of overlooked it?”
Giants play-by-play man Bob Papa retorted, “Obviously, it’s happened a lot,” before Banks continued with his criticism of the former Penn State star.
“And it’s disappointing because I expect more from the young man,” Banks said while the Giants fell to 2-11. “And I, again, have been a big defender, saying, “Oh, he’ll be OK. He’ll be OK.’ But, here’s the thing — you can’t care more about this stuff than the kids themselves. So, he’s got to grow up, shape up, and hopefully whatever happens at the end of this year but next year, he gets his head on straight, and gets focused, and has someone that can keep him accountable from day one.”
Carter landed with the Giants to much critical acclaim, but it’s troubling that through 13 weeks he has been benched more times (two) than he’s sacked the opposing quarterback.
Sources told The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy that being late has been a theme during Carter’s first NFL season, although others have pushed back against that narrative.
He defended missing the walk-through before the Week 11 loss, stating he was doing recovery regimen, but he and coach Mike Kafka did not provide much details about his infraction Monday night.

Carter responded by tallying his first full sack of the season in a disappointing night for the defnese.
“I have to be better,” Carter said. “I have to take pride in what I do, be where I have to be at. Simple as that.”
He added: “I ain’t going to get into detail. S–t happens.”
Some of Carter’s teammates echoed similar sentiments to Banks, with Giants captain Dexter Lawrence also saying the 22-year-old needs to mature.
“Just grow up, really,” Lawrence said. “I think he loves football and he takes it serious. His approach to the game is really good. Just young stuff that can’t happen.”
Carter has four games left in his rookie season to make his mark — or at least try to finish with more sacks than disciplines.
