In a statement shared on the late rocker’s official Instagram account, the estate said that Michael — who died on Christmas Day in 2016 at age 58 — would have fully backed the song’s inclusion in Swift’s album.

“We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael’s classic song ‘Father Figure’ into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album,” the statement said.

The original song, which debuted on Michael’s debut studio album “Faith” in 1987, alluded to the singer’s life as a gay man — though he had not declared his sexuality at the time.

The track, which is fourth on Swift’s album, is co-written by Swift’s longtime collaborators and mentors Max Martin and Shellback.

Back in August, Michael’s ex-partner of 13 years, Kenny Goss, told TMZ that while the “Careless Whisper” singer never got to meet Swift, he believes the pair would have bonded over their respective careers and artistry.

Swift’s new album, which boasts a total of 12 songs, also included many references and loving nods to her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

While announcing her album on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s “New Heights” podcast last month, Swift said there are “no other songs coming” beyond the 12 tracks she has released.

“There’s no other songs coming,” she said on Aug. 14. “With ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, I was like, ‘Here’s a data dump of everything I thought and felt in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs.’ This is 12. There’s not a 13th, there’s not other ones coming.”

“This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time… Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know, and you couldn’t take one out, and it’d be the same album. You couldn’t add one. It’s just right.”
