‘General Hospital’ Wins Outstanding Daytime Drama at 2025 Daytime Emmys, Extends Record-Breaking Streak

General Hospital just proved that daytime royalty doesn’t retire. The beloved ABC soap opera was named Outstanding Daytime Drama Series at the 2025 Daytime Emmys, snagging the night’s top honor during the 52nd annual ceremony on Friday, October 17. Also nominated in the category were Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless.

With the big win, General Hospital wrapped its 2025 campaign with seven Daytime Emmy Awards — the most of any soap this year — and cemented its record-breaking streak.

The long-running series — which also took home the same title at the 2024 Daytime Emmys — continues to hold the record for most wins in the Outstanding Daytime Drama category. This year, it racked up 16 nominations overall, a testament to its continued dominance more than six decades after its debut.

Premiering on April 1, 1963, General Hospital is the longest-running American soap opera still in production, having aired over 15,600 episodes across 62 seasons. Despite the ever-shrinking daytime TV landscape, the series remains a consistent performer for ABC, drawing an average of about 2 million viewers per episode in 2025 — an impressive feat for a show that’s been part of television history for more than 60 years.

Among this year’s acting nominees were Laura Wright (Carly) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) — who won — for Lead Actress; Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) for Lead Actor; Kate Mansi (Kristina) for Supporting Actress; and Tajh Bellow (TJ), Gregory Harrison (Gregory) and Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) — who won — for Supporting Actor. The Guest Actress field featured Jacqueline Lopez (Blaze), Alley Mills (Heather) — who also won — and Avery Kristen Pohl (Esme).

Beyond the acting categories, General Hospital also took home trophies for writing, directing, costume design/styling, casting, and hair and makeup, solidifying its reign as the undisputed heavyweight of daytime drama.

For context, The Young and the Restless — a frequent winner in this category with 11 previous victories — walked away with just one win from its 19 nominations this year.

Even after more than six decades on the air, General Hospital continues to capture fans’ attention with high-stakes storylines, sprawling family drama, and a legacy that stretches from the legendary 1981 “Luke & Laura” wedding (which drew an estimated 30 million viewers) to today’s younger generation of viewers streaming on demand.
