From baby Balenciaga to blue-haired tween

North West has been out-dressing adults since she was in diapers.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest daughter started making fashion headlines as a baby dressed head-to-toe in designer labels. Now a tween with blue hair, diamond grills and a bridge piercing, she’s traded in her tutus for platform boots and bleached eyebrows.

Born in June 2013, the firstborn of two style juggernauts was seemingly destined for a life in the fashion spotlight. And spotlight she’s seized — again and again.
Here’s a look back at North’s complete style evolution through the years.
Baby in Balenciaga (2013–2015)
North was fluent in fashion before she could talk.
At just 1 year old, the tot attended her first Paris Fashion Week, sitting front row at Givenchy in September 2014 in a custom chiffon dress that coordinated with Kim, establishing a mini-me aesthetic that would follow the mother-daughter duo for years.
By 2015, the 2-year-old was heading to ballet class in tiny tutus paired with Balmain blazers. Reports at the time estimated the toddler’s wardrobe was worth an eye-popping $1 million, including custom fur coats, $300 Charlotte Olympia cat flats and baby-sized Alexander Wang.
“She’s really particular about what she likes to wear, she’s such a girlie girl,” Kardashian told Vogue of her stylish firstborn.
“Every day she wakes up and says ‘shoes,’” she said. “You have to bargain with her — before you change her diaper, she needs a pair of shoes on.”
Mini style maven (2016–2020)
North developed a style of her own as a youngster, one that merged her dad’s streetwear sensibility with her mom’s love of luxury.
Photographed out and about with her famous parents, she looked every bit the tiny rockstar in leopard print fur coats, Dr. Martens, Thrasher tees and velvet slip dresses. In November 2016, she attended her father’s Saint Pablo tour in a custom silver sequin Vetements dress that matched Kim’s.
By December 2018, North was channeling Selena Gomez in a lime green outfit the pop star wore in her “Taki Taki” music video. That same holiday season, she sparked one of her first style controversies when she stepped out in Prada and bold red lipstick. Critics questioned whether the look was age-appropriate, but Kim defended her daughter’s glam moment.
North proved her trendsetting power in 2019 when wore a peach feathered Prada top to her dad’s Sunday Service. Days later, aunt Kendall Jenner stepped out in the same design, later admitting she’d purchased the look without realizing her 5-year-old niece owned it first.
“I would borrow clothes from North,” Jenner said. “She is stylish. She dresses herself.”
Consummate cool kid (2020–2022)
As North inched toward her tween years, her fashion choices became increasingly sophisticated.
The joint TikTok account North shares with Kim became a window into her lavish wardrobe. In December 2021, she gave fans a tour of her closet in a since-deleted clip: shelves packed with Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Dior and multiple four-figure Judith Leiber crystal clutches shaped like a pizza slice, Cinderella’s carriage and a strawberry donut.
Adult celebrities were also taking cues from the tween’s outfits. In August 2021, Dua Lipa wore the same cow-print Mowalola dress that North had worn to her 7th birthday party in Wyoming. The viral Instagram account Nori’s Black Book commented on a split photo of the two: “She didn’t stand a chance.”
July 2022 marked a major fashion moment when North stepped out during Paris Fashion Week in her dad’s Pastelle varsity jacket — the same one Kanye wore to the 2008 American Music Awards. The blue-and-red style, from his defunct aughts-era streetwear label, has sold for up to $10,000 on the resale market.
On the same trip, she and Kim were photographed rocking matching nose rings while taking in the Jean Paul Gaultier show, upping the ante on their twinning game.
Edgy tween (2023–2024)
North isn’t one to sugarcoat her fashion critiques.
In a November 2023 episode of “The Kardashians,” the then-9-year-old tore into mom’s custom Schiaparelli gown for the 2023 Met Gala — to designer Daniel Roseberry’s face.
“It looks like she’s a Hawaiian girl with her dress all ripped,” North told him of the piece, which featured 50,000 real freshwater pearls. “I like the pearls. I just don’t like that it looks like from the Dollar Store.”
That same fall, North landed her first solo magazine cover with i-D and revealed her plans to own both Yeezy and Skims someday. Her style icon? “Me.”
Off the red carpet, she reached for comfy staples: sweatpants, oversized tees and baggy shorts. For events, she swapped in tailored pantsuits and Chanel handbags.
A spring 2023 trip to Tokyo with her mom and siblings showcased both sides: long purple braids and $4,000 worth of pastel designer purses by Prada, Olympia Le-Tan and Judith Leiber.
Blue-haired rebel (2025–Present)
At 12, North has officially entered her alt era.
The tween’s most dramatic transformation came in May 2025, shortly before her 12th birthday, when she debuted electric blue hair in hip-length braids.
In the months since, she’s experimented with silhouettes that have sent the internet into a tizzy, stepping out in corsets, pleated miniskirts and 5-inch platform boots that sparked fierce debate over what’s age-appropriate.
Kim addressed the mounting criticism about North’s boundary-pushing style on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, defending her daughter’s creative choices.
“I’m like, ‘Babe, if you want blue hair, it is what it is.’ You know, it makes her so happy. I would never take that creativity away from her,” said the mom of four.
The next week, North pushed boundaries even further, debuting fake face tattoos, a faux septum piercing, blue contact lenses and black grills in a viral TikTok. When critics flooded their joint account, the tween clapped back in the comments: “This is such a non-issue.”
By January 2026, North was sporting a new bridge piercing and blackened teeth in TikTok videos.
It’s a far cry from her baby Balmain days — but then again, North West has never been one to stay in a style lane for long.
Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
