‘Friendship’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the Tim Robinson Movie ‘Friendship’ Be Streaming on HBO Max?

If you’re eagerly awaiting the next season of I Think You Should Leave, then you definitely should watch the new Tim Robinson movie, Friendship, which is coming to digital platforms tomorrow.

Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung in his feature film debut, Friendship is an off-beat comedy starring Robinson as a man whose life is upended when he befriends his cool new neighbor, Austin (played by the always-hilarious Paul Rudd). If you’re a fan of Robinson’s awkward humor from I Think You Should Leave, you’ll definitely find lots to laugh about in this odd little rumination on the embarrassing, anxiety-inducing highs and lows of male friendship.

Also starring Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Glazer, and Josh Segarra, Friendship comes with all the cringe-worthy, bizarre humor that Robinson’s many loyal fans love so dearly. After a month in theaters, A24 is releasing Friendship on premium video-on-demand. But before you spend $25 to watch Friendship at home, read on to find out what we know about when the Friendship movie will be streaming free on HBO Max.

Where to watch the Tim Robinson Friendship movie on streaming:

Beginning on Tuesday, June 17 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, June 16) you will be able to buy a digital copy of Friendship on platforms like Amazon Prime, Fandango At Home, Apple TV, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to buy the film, but on Amazon, the film cost $24.99 to pre-order a digital copy. Friendship will not yet be available to rent online.

Friendship is not currently available to stream on any subscription-based services, but the film will eventually be coming to streaming, on Max, thanks to the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brings A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service Max (formerly known as, and soon to once again be known as, HBO Max).

When will Tim Robinson’s Friendship movie be streaming on HBO Max?

The Friendship movie streaming release date on Max has not yet been announced, but we can make an educated guess as to when you can expect to see Friendship on Max.

The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to Friendship, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, Parthenope, began streaming on Max on June 6, about four months after its release in theaters, and about three months after its release on digital.

If Friendship follows a similar release strategy, you might see Friendship streaming on Max in about four months, around mid-September 2025.

This is all speculation. The A24 digital and streaming releases have varied by title. If you want to watch Friendship right away, you can buy a digital copy starting tomorrow.
