William Vance was walking past a West 34th Street LensCrafters last month when, “suddenly and without warning,” a heavy glass door fell off of its hinges and onto him, shattering and throwing him to the ground, according to his lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

“I never saw this coming,” Vance, 32, said. “I’m just glad this door didn’t fall and hit a child.”

The suit claimed that workers were “reporting working” on some part of the door a day before it fell and that LensCrafters either knew about the “hazardous condition” — or created it themselves.

Vance suffered multiple fractures to his shoulder and foot, in addition to rotator cuff and ligament injuries, the suit said.

“He’s been in a sling unable to move his arm since the accident,” his attorney Daniel Cevallos told The Post. “He’s been immobilized, he has missed work, he really has been debilitated from this.”

Vance’s New York nightmare happened on the morning of May 19 when he was walking to his nearby office and passed by the LensCrafters just east of Herald Square.

He was “just walking on the sidewalk” and did not even “try to open” either of the two innocuous-looking glass doors to the LensCrafters when the door fell, the suit claimed.

Standard glass doors common for retail storefronts can weigh 350 pounds.

“The falling door struck plaintiff with great force, propelling him to the ground and causing serious injuries from several impacts,” the suit claimed.

Cevallos said Vance was in “such shock” that he can’t recall what happened, and has filed legal papers ordering the LensCrafters to secure any surveillance footage of the incident.

After the horrific scene, Cevallos claimed to have received a tip that the store had workers fiddling with the door just a day earlier, meaning that the shop could have known about an issue prior to the shattering malfunction.

Vance was so seriously injured that the tech worker and former college athlete has been laid up, unable to work a month after the frightening incident.

A request for comment sent to LensCrafters’ parent company, eyewear leviathan Luxottica, was not returned by publication, and a call to the shop went unanswered.

While Cevallos said the door has been replaced, the damage done to his client could have lasting effects.

“Will was very seriously injured,” Cevallos said. “He’s focusing on his recovery right now, and he is very concerned that this kind of thing won’t happen to anyone else in the future.”
