Former Disney Actor Matt Prokop Arrested on Multiple Charges, Including Felony Child Pornography

Former child actor Matt Prokop has been arrested in Texas and is facing multiple charges, including a second-degree felony count of possession of child pornography.

Prokop, 35, was taken into custody on December 24 in Victoria County, Texas, according to an employee at the Victoria County Jail who confirmed the arrest to People. TMZ first reported the news.

Court records indicate Prokop is charged with four misdemeanors: one count of violating a bond or protective order, one count of evading arrest or detention, and two counts of resisting arrest, search, or transportation.

In addition, he faces a felony charge for possession of child pornography. He is currently being held at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail, and it is not yet clear when he will make his first court appearance.

The arrest comes years after Prokop’s highly publicized relationship with actress Sarah Hyland, who accused him of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship. According to court filings previously obtained by People, Hyland alleged that Prokop slammed her into a vehicle and choked her during an argument in May 2014.

The situation escalated later that summer. In August 2014, Modern Family star Julie Bowen reportedly intervened to help Hyland leave the relationship. Per Hyland’s restraining order filing, Prokop allegedly threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house following the breakup. Hyland was granted a restraining order the following month.

Hyland has largely avoided discussing the relationship in the years since. However, she addressed its lasting impact during an October 2024 interview with Variety, saying, “I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that. It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit. It’s more so putting love towards that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it.”
