Exclusive | Ron Johnson tells ‘Pod Force One’ he is perplexed by mystery surrounding would-be Trump assassin

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson raised concerns about the lack of information about would-be presidential assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks and defended his subpoena of the FBI for records on him during an interview on “Pod Force One.”

“All of a sudden I realize, here we are a year later, I haven’t heard a peep out of this. We still don’t know about, what did his social media accounts say?” Johnson (R-Wis.) lamented on the podcast.

“Why haven’t we unlocked this information? Why doesn’t America know more about it?” he added. “There’s some odd things about it, him appearing in commercials for, was it BlackRock, just like the other potential assassin down in Palm Beach. I mean, it’s just bizarre stuff. I mean, explain this to us.”

Crooks was ultimately killed off by countersnipers after ringing off a shot that grazed the top of President Trump’s right ear during his fateful July 13, 2024, rally in Butler, Pa. The 20-year-old had killed firefighter Corey Comperatore and injured two others.

Johnson, who helms the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, subpoenaed the FBI back in July of this year for records on Crooks amid those concerns.

“My subpoenas to this administration are friendly subpoenas,” he explained, before later adding: “There’s so many enormous messes that Trump and his department heads are trying to clean up. Some of these are maybe a high priority to me or you, but they’ve got kind of bigger fish to fry.”

The Wisconsin senator is hoping that the telecommunications companies will help with his investigation into unraveling some of the mysteries around Crooks.

“I think this was a news outlet, it might have been New York Post [that] did a geo-positioning search on Crooks’ phone and kind of like that Family Circus deals, all over the place, the FBI headquarters,” Johnson recounted.

“My staff kind of cautions me about talking about that, because we’re not quite sure of the validity of that
as well. But I mean, again, those are the kinds of questions that deserve answers,” he added.

“It’s those kind of questions that go unanswered that just feed into conspiracy theories.”

In February, The Post reported on how a private investigator who looked into Crooks concluded that one of the electronic devices geolocated with Crooks at several different places at the time of the shooting was still pinging in Bethel Park High School.

That investigator was suspicious that Crooks didn’t act alone.

While Johnson’s team hasn’t stumbled onto any bombshells in its Butler, Pa., assassination attempt probe recently, the senator teased that there is some information trickling in.

“It took us a long time. I think we’re finally starting to get some of the information from the Pennsylvania State Police,” he said without elaborating.
