“As my time with the @EdmontonOilers has now come to a close, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank the entire organization, my teammates, and the incredible community of Edmonton,” Kane wrote in a post across his social media pages.

“… With that said, I’m incredibly excited for the next chapter of my career as I join the @Canucks. It’s an honor to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid.”

Edmonton will receive a 2025 fourth-rounder in return from the Canucks, who will pick up the $5.125 million cap hit for their newest addition, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Kane scored six goals for Edmonton this postseason, playing a key role throughout the Oilers’ second consecutive Stanley Cup Finals run — which resulted in another loss to the Panthers — after missing all of the regular season following multiple surgeries.

He has built an identity as both a talented goal-scorer and an imposing physical presence on the ice at 6-foot-2, 218 pounds.

LeBrun reported Wednesday that three teams were interested in acquiring Kane, but his hometown Canucks were the preference.

Kane is entering his 16th season in the NHL, and Vancouver will be his sixth team.

The left winger will bring scoring pedigree to the Canucks, who missed the playoffs this season, but he’ll also need to limit his penalty minutes, which has been an issue throughout his career.

Kane led the NHL in penalty minutes in 2018-19 (153) and 2019-20 (122), and he totaled a brutal 30 penalty minutes in the Stanley Cup Final.

In his most recent full regular season with Edmonton in 2023-24, Kane tallied 24 goals and 20 assists with 85 penalty minutes.
