Eric Adams is so anti-Zohran Mamdani he’s warming to Cuomo — a mayoral candidate he once called a ‘snake and a liar’

Better a “snake and a liar” than a socialist.

Mayor Eric Adams is so set against Zohran Mamdani taking his job that he’s warming up to the idea of supporting his one-time bitter electoral rival Andrew Cuomo, sources told The Post.

Adams, who dropped his likely doomed re-election bid Sunday, recently told his allies behind the scenes that they had his OK to support the ex-governor if they wanted, according to the sources.

Hizzoner also admitted to Post columnist Michael Goodwin that he “put out feelers” to Cuomo and GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa about a possible endorsement, and that he was “more inclined” to the career Democrat.

Adams said he was willing to bury the hatchet with Cuomo — whom he condemned as a “snake and a liar” barely a month ago — because the democratic socialist Mamdani is a bigger threat to New York City.

“New York cannot be an experiment,” Adams said.

Cuomo signaled during an NY1 interview Monday evening that he’d welcome an odd-couple anti-Mamdani alliance with Adams.

“I look forward to talking to [Adams] but I have not. Obviously, his support would be great,” Cuomo said.

“More on a personal level, I just hope he’s at peace with his decision. And my guess is he has to sit with it for a while.”

The dramatic change of heart for Adams has been weeks in the offing, with insiders dishing that the mayor gradually softened his tone on Cuomo.

Adams acknowledged anger toward Cuomo, contending the flip-flop-prone ex-gov went back on a promise to not launch a comeback campaign for mayor “if Eric runs.”

But Adams, fearing a Mamdani mayoralty, has since given those close to him — like longtime friend and campaign manager, Frank Carone, and others in his administration — the green light to back Cuomo, sources said.

“It’s like, put aside whatever you think about Cuomo, whatever you can do, defeat Mamdani,” one source said.

Even Adams’ right hand in City Hall, Randy Mastro, offered up that he would be voting for Cuomo in November without much prompting during a roundtable Tuesday morning.

The tentative reconciliation hasn’t been without its turbulence.

Adams’ original speech announcing he’d drop out included a pointed jab warning voters that a politician who repeatedly flip-flops on issues “cannot be trusted.”

The prod against Cuomo, who is running on an independent line, was taken out last-minute, unbeknownst to his camp.

“Unaware the dig was in and more unaware it was taken out,” said one Cuomo insider who was shocked at the change.
