Edwin Diaz’s historic Mets stretch has been two years in the making



Edwin Díaz has enjoyed some dominant stretches before, but the Mets closer is currently riding an unrivaled heater both personally and across franchise history.

Díaz’s scoreless inning Monday night gave him 19 consecutive appearances over more than two months without allowing an earned run. He has only been charged with one over his past 34 relief outings since April 23, and his 0.26 ERA over that span represents both the best 34-game stretch of his career and the lowest ever by any Mets reliever.

Before Tuesday’s game against the Guardians, the three-time All-Star acknowledged this is “the best I’ve felt” since missing the entire 2023 season with a knee injury suffered in the World Baseball Classic earlier that year.

“One hundred percent,” Díaz told The Post outside the dugout during batting practice. “It’s been a long time that I haven’t given up [an earned] run. I always look at my stats and I know how I’m doing.
