Does “nature’s Ozempic” exist?

One protein-packed product may be worthy of the title, as research suggests that consuming it before certain meals could mimic the effects of the popular slimming drug.

While it’s not quite as effective as the seemingly miraculous GLP-1 medications, whey protein can help with satiety and insulin response.

Several trials found that drinking a shake made with the milk-derived protein before a meal improved blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes or obesity.

Meanwhile, a small study reported that whey protein shakes before breakfast and lunch resulted in lower blood sugar and reduced appetites — two key effects of weight loss drugs.

The time of day when the shakes were consumed is noteworthy.

Specifically, the high-protein shakes had a significant effect on glucose levels in the morning. By lunchtime, participants’ appetites were moderately suppressed.

A byproduct of the cheese-making process, whey protein is a popular ingredient in dietary supplements for gym buffs.

Studies show that it can help build muscle and increase strength.

Whey protein also stimulates the release of GLP-1, a gut hormone that reduces calorie intake by promoting fullness and suppressing appetite.

GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic work by mimicking GLP-1 to regulate blood sugar and trigger weight loss.

While these drugs are effective, they can cause unpleasant side effects like sulfur burps or the sagging jowls better known as “Ozempic face.”

Whey protein can cause bloating, cramps or other digestive problems, and for those with a milk allergy, hives, rashes or swelling.

There are several forms of whey protein — concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate — which differ in their processing, protein purity and absorption rate.

Whey protein hydrolysate is pre-digested for fast absorption, whey protein isolate has a high protein concentration, while whey protein concentrate is the least processed.

The best choice depends on individual goals.

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
