Eagles receivers appear to point finger at Jalen Hurts after loss
The Eagles weren’t on the same page offensively on Sunday in their 21-17 loss to the Broncos, according to DeVonta Smith. And the team’s wide receiver wasn’t shy about what was to blame.
The Philadelphia wide receiver suggested that the team “shot ourselves in the foot a lot” and that the offense “could be a lot better” when he spoke with reporters after the loss.

While the Eagles had one of their best passing days of the season, Smith pointed to several key breakdowns between the receivers and Jalen Hurts, where he missed signals from the star QB.
“There’s times where we’re looking at him and he may give a signal before or after we look, and ultimately we have to be on the same page,” Smith said, according to ESPN. “We have to see that signal no matter what.
“It was just little things within the routes. He may have seen something pre-snap and sometimes we didn’t see it.”
The Broncos rallied back from a 17-3 deficit to pick up their third win of the season and hand Philly its first loss of the 2025 campaign.
“I’d have to ask him what he’s referring to because I don’t remember any of those things happening,” Hurts said when asked about the miscommunication. “But again, if I watch the film and something comes up, that’d be something that we can talk about and grow from.”
While Smith made mention of what he felt was an issue on Sunday, it was not one that was shared by everyone.
A.J. Brown said the offense “just didn’t finish” and brought up the “inconsistency” that has been an issue for the Eagles.
However, a miscue between Brown and Hurts cost the Eagles a big play chance when the two couldn’t connect on a third-quarter pass on first-and-15 from the Eagles’ 39-yard line.
“It’s not that I didn’t think the ball was coming,” Brown said to reporters. “When I looked up, I didn’t see the ball. I looked back, I didn’t see the ball, and then the ball was thrown. We just missed.”

Philadelphia had entered Sunday’s game against Denver averaging 251.5 offensive yards, which had ranked 30th in the NFL and the 31st-ranked for average passing yards this year with 138.
The Eagles will have a short week this week with Philadelphia slated to face the Giants on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.
