The monochromatic look is, of course, a nod to Valentino’s signature color, which was even sanctioned by Pantone as “Valentino red.” He became famous for the hue, which he would repeat many times, after debuting a poppy-colored dress in his very first show in 1959.

As the story goes, Garavani was initially inspired by the costumes of George Bizet’s opera, “Carmen” during his childhood as well as the prominence of the tone throughout the audience.

Instantly captivated, he used the color frequently throughout his collections and it quickly became synonymous with the brand.
