The younger Chapman began a pursuit of a vehicle in Priceville for moving violations/suspected DUI, WHNT reported, citing police sources.

The vehicle, allegedly driven by Archie Hale, crossed over into neighboring Hartselle, where it slammed into a minivan that 17-year-old Tristan Hollis was riding in at the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 36 at around 8:30 p.m.

Hale and his passenger were injured after ramming into the minivan that carried Hollis and three other teen boys, who were all hospitalized

Hollis was transported to a hospital and was later pronounced dead, the outlet reported.

Chapman was placed on administrative leave as part of protocol and an internal investigation, Priceville Police Chief Jerry Holmes told WHNT.

Hartselle Police is investigating the crash that led to Hollis’ death.

“This is a complex and in-depth investigation. As such, it will take time and will not be concluded in the near future,” Hartselle Police Chief Alan McDearmond told the outlet.

Hale was seriously injured in the crash and will reportedly remain in the hospital for an extended period of time, the outlet reported.

Police have not charged Hale in connection with the deadly incident but are expected to, WAFF reported.

“I would like to add that we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by this tragedy,” Holmes added.

Hollis was remembered by the Hartselle High School during a prayer vigil on Monday.

“Tristan had just got his first car and just celebrated his 17th birthday.  He was a very polite young man and loved sweet treats,” his obituary read. “He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.”
