Dodgers interested in Devin Williams after rocky Yankees season

The Dodgers were linked to right-handed reliever Devin Williams before, and they’re linked to him once again.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes hinted Tuesday that the team could be in the market for a reliever, and The Athletic reported that among the potential candidates, Williams is one player that Los Angeles has its eye on.

Williams, 31, had a rough season with the Yankees in 2025, getting removed from his role as closer and posting a 4.79 ERA.

He went  4-6 and had a 1.13 WHIP, recording 18 saves in 22 opportunities in pinstripes.

Williams, a two-time National League Reliever of the Year winner with the Brewers, had previously expressed openness to returning to the Yankees and felt that he had a solid season.

“I think overall [my season] was pretty good, to be honest,” Williams said in October. “At the end of the day, I think it was along the lines with what I’ve done in the past, outside of a few blowup games. I feel like I contributed.”

The Yankees did not tender Williams a qualifying offer, and now that he’s on the open market, The Athletic reported that there appeared to be mutual interest between the Dodgers and the two-time All-Star.

Los Angeles was linked to Williams last winter when the Brewers were looking to trade him.

He ended up being traded to the Yankees.

Gomes said his strategy for this offseason is “being very targeted in who we go out and look to acquire.”

“I think that holds true across the board, without many glaring holes,” he said. “So I think it’s taking this time to look at what is available, what fits in free agency, and also the different avenues that we can. So I think the mindset is still to approach the offseason and not have to go out and make big splashy trades at the deadline.”
