Disturbing details emerge in Cowboys All-Pro KaVontae Turpin’s arrest

KaVontae Turpin’s arrest on misdemeanor drug and weapon charges over the weekend came after he allegedly drove nearly 100 miles per hour with a gun and marijuana in his car.

According to an Allen Police Department incident report obtained by TMZ Sports, the Cowboys All-Pro was clocked at 97 miles per hour in a 70 mile-per-hour zone at around 11:49 p.m. Saturday night in Texas.

During the stop, police say a nine millimeter pistol was sitting in “plain view” in the backseat of his vehicle and they later found weed in Turpin’s center console.

Turpin was taken to jail on the two misdemeanor counts — possession of marijuana less than two ounces and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Sunday morning, Turpin was released on $1,500 bail from Collin County Jail.

The 28-year-old is coming off his best season as a pro in which he received All-Pro honors as a return specialist.

Turpin led the NFL in kickoff return yards and yards per return, with 994 and 33.5, respectively. He took one kickoff return for a touchdown as well as one punt return.

In what was his third NFL season, the two-time Pro Bowler also added value as a receiver with career-highs of 31 catches and 420 yards.

Turpin’s path to the pros was turbulent, as he was kicked off of TCU’s football team in 2018 after two domestic violence allegations against him from the same woman.

He was then away from football for three years before he joined the Fan Controlled Football League, The Spring League, the European League of Football and the USFL.

In the USFL, he was a star for the New Jersey Generals as he won the MVP of the 2022 season.

He then landed with the Cowboys for the 2022-23 season and, as a rookie, became the the first player in Cowboys history to score touchdowns as a receiver, kick returner and punt returner in a single season.

Earlier this year, the 5-foot-9 speedster signed a new three-year, $28 million contract with Dallas.
