Deion Sanders ‘dumbfounded’ after Colorado’s blowout loss to Utah
Coach Prime typically has plenty to say — but Colorado’s latest performance left him at a loss for words.
Buffaloes’ head coach Deion Sanders was left “dumbfounded” after his team endured a 53-7 pummeling from the Utah Utes on Saturday night in Salt Lake City.

“Sometimes you just are dumbfounded, man,” Sanders said. “You just look at this day and say, ‘Wow, what happened?’ There’s no way.”
The staggering 46-point margin was the largest deficit in the 72-game history of the “Rumble in the Rockies” matchup between Colorado and Utah — also marking Colorado’s worst defeat since Sanders took the helm in the 2023 season.
He didn’t mince words when characterizing the excruciating loss.
“This is bad,” he said. “This is probably the worst beating I’ve ever had except when my momma whooped me as a kid.”
The Buffaloes (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) mustered just 140 yards of total offense, while the Utes (6-2, 3-2) erupted for 422 yards on the ground with four rushing touchdowns.

Colorado found themselves on the wrong end of a 43-0 score at halftime — the biggest halftime lead without surrendering a point by a Big 12 team in a conference game since 2011, according to ESPN.
Reflecting on where it all went wrong, Sanders admitted that he was still “trying to figure that out,” though he emphasized that the team’s disastrous performance “starts with me.”
Colorado, just 16-17 in the Coach Prime era, is in win-now mode after their rocky start, needing to secure three victories in its final four regular-season games to become eligible for a bowl game.
“We gotta figure this out, like now,” Sanders said.
The Buffaloes return to Boulder to host Arizona (4-3, 1-4 Big 12) on Nov. 1.
