Roberts was ejected from the game after a drawn-out and heated discussion.

After Roberts talked to second-base umpire Marvin Hudson for a while, third-base umpire Trent Gibson then came over as tempers escalated.

Roberts was asked at his postgame press conference whether he thought the hit was intentional.

“Absolutely. Absolutely,” Roberts said. “For me, if they feel that’s warranted on their side … own it. And we move on. But it’s not a misfire. I do feel it was intentional.”

Ohtani was one of three batters hit by a pitch in the Dodgers’ 8-6 victory.

The first was Padres’ star Fernando Tatis Jr., who got hit by a 95-mph fastball in the back in the top of the third.

Then, Ohtani, got hit in the leg in the bottom of that inning, leading to warnings for both teams.

Finally, in the top of the seventh, the Dodgers’ Matt Sauer hit Raul Iglésias with a pitch in the hand.

Those in the Padres dugout wanted to see those warnings take effect and Sauer ejected, but the umpires did not think Iglesias was hit intentionally.

The anger started Monday night when the Dodgers’ Andy Pages was hit by a pitch.

The center fielder claimed he hit was intentionally, but pitcher Dylan Cease said, “It’s part of the game.”

On Tuesday night, Pages got his revenge with two home runs and three RBIs.
