Cowboys go through with Logan Wilson trade after Troy Aikman mocks them
The Cowboys didn’t let another ugly loss — and some ridicule from a franchise legend — change their buying mentality before Tuesday’s NFL trade trade deadline.
Dallas is finalizing a trade to acquire Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson, per ESPN, less than 12 hours after a bad home loss to the Cardinals on “Monday Night Football” dropped the Cowboys to 3-5-1.

Cincinnati will receive a seventh-round pick for Wilson, who requested the trade due to a dip in playing time, according to NFL Network.
Wilson should help a defense allowing the second-most points in the NFL at 30.8 per game, and has two years remaining on his contract.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said before the game that he had a deal in place and ESPN reported Tuesday that he likely was referring to this trade, which legendary Dallas quarterback Troy Aiman scoffed at — without knowing the specifics — during the third quarter of the Cardinals’ 27-17 win Monday.
“He may want to cancel that trade,” Aikman said on ESPN after laughing. “I don’t think one player from what I’ve seen tonight is going to make a difference for this group.”
Jones, 83, made some headlines Monday when he hinted at Dallas having a deal already but opted not to go into the specifics.
The Cowboys have been playing from behind defensively since trading Micah Parsons to the Packers, with the unit providing as much resistance to opposing offenses as a folding chair would.
Dallas is not considered a legit contender with this leaky defense, and teams usually cannot turn around a bad unit at the trade deadline due to the lack of available playmakers.
Yet, Jones seemed intent on buying.
“We certainly have made a trade and we may make a couple more trades before the deadline,” Jones said on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” as transcribed by ESPN. “We’ve made one. We possibly could make two more, and I’m going to wait and let you read about that when we send the papers in tomorrow.”
Perhaps those other two deals will be put on hold after Dallas’ uninspiring effort Monday against a Cardinals team that had lost five straight and started backup quarter Jacoby Brissett — although it seems there’s a chance he has passed the “Is he actually injured?” Kyler Murray on the depth chart.

ESPN’s Joe Buck mentioned during the game, with Arizona leading, 24-10, that Jones previously said one player would not be the difference-maker for this unit, and the broadcasting duo agreed.
They mentioned how Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who has been in rumors this year, led the league with 17.5 sacks last year yet Cincinnati’s defense still cost the team a playoff spot.
“They’re beyond that right now, defensively,” Buck said of the Cowboys being one player away.
Said Aikman: “If you’re talking about Trey Hendrickson, he was on this defense last year in Cincinnati, that was the equivalent of what we are watching here tonight, and he couldn’t change their fortunes.”
Instead of adding Hendrickson from the Bengals, the Cowboys instead landed Wilson.
The 2020 third-round pick has 19 solo tackles and one fumble recovery in eight games, but Cincinnati removed him as a a starter in Week 8 and he missed Week 9 due to injury.
However, he tallied at least 100 total tackles in each of the previous four seasons.
He signed a four-year extension in 2023 worth up to $37.25 million, per NFL Network. His first game with Dallas will have to wait since the Cowboys are on bye this week.
The Cowboys return in Week 11 for another “Monday Night Football” game — this one on the road against the Raiders.
