Rose claimed Sweeney “ruined” the “Christy” biopic, in which she plays Martin.
Martin, in turn, hit back via Instagram on Wednesday at “some people attack[ing]” Sweeney.
“I’ve always been a fighter,” the retired athlete told her followers. “My life reflected that in every way and now I fight for others.
“Syd not only worked her ass off for this film, she worked her ass off for me. For my story. For so many others suffering in silence,” she continued. “So I want to be clear about who Syd is. She is my friend and ally!”
Rose’s rep has yet to respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The “Orange is the New Black” alum published her criticism of Sweeney on Tuesday via Threads.
The 39-year-old claimed she had been involved in the film’s planning stages as a fictional character based on Martin’s high school girlfriend, Sherry Lusk, whom Jess Gabor portrayed in the final film.
“The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material,” Rose shared.
“Most of us were actually gay,” she added. “It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time. … People [don’t] want to see someone who hates them parading around pretending to be us.”
Rose then blasted the “Euphoria” alum as a “cretin” who “ruined the film,” concluding, “Period. Christy deserved better.”
Sweeney’s political leanings have come under fire this year after it was revealed she is a registered Republican.
Her American Eagle jeans ad was also derided for allegedly promoting eugenics, with many likening it to “Nazi propaganda.”
Sweeney expressed “surprise” over the backlash in a GQ interview earlier this month, saying, “I did a jean ad. … I love jeans.”
Meanwhile, the actress has been photographed looking carefree on both coasts with her new boyfriend, Scooter Braun, all month long.
She and the music manager, 44, were most recently photographed making out in Central Park and enjoying a bike ride in Montecito, Calif.
