Listen, I’ll defend Paul Feig’s 2019 widely-mocked Christmas movie, Last Christmas, until my dying breath. This romantic comedy stars Emilia Clarke as a grumpy, disgruntled Christmas story employee and Henry Golding as the charming but mysterious do-gooder she falls in love with. If you’re the kind of person who’s turned off by predictable twists, Last Christmas is not for you. But if you’re the kind of person who likes movies with something beautiful to say about humanity—said in a way that makes you laugh and cry—then Last Christmas is definitely for you.

If you’re looking for some good ol’fashioned, holiday-themed, early 2000s humor, then hurry up and watch this Tim Allen comedy, Christmas with the Kranks, before it leaves Netflix on November 30. Directed by Home Alone director Chris Columbus, and featuring an all-star cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Aykroyd, Erik Per Sullivan, Cheech Marin, Jake Busey, and M. Emmet Walsh, this one is a wholesome hoot for the whole family.

  3. CARRY ON, (aka CARRY-ON), Taron Egerton, 2024.

Last year’s Netflix original, Carry On is a fun, fast-paced action thriller that will have you seeing your holiday travels in a whole new light. The film stars stars Taron Egerton as Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent at Los Angeles’s biggest travel hub, LAX. Ethan gets roped into a terrorist scheme by a mysterious traveler (played by Jason Bateman), and now he’s the only one who can prevent a dangerous package from boarding a plane—on Christmas! Carry On will give you a newfound appreciation for the complex inner-workings of airports during the holiday rush.

  4. HOT FROSTY, Dustin Milligan, 2024.

Hot Frosty—a comedy about a snowman that magically transforms into a hot guy—leans into its absurdity in the best way. Star Dustin Milligan—who is also known from Schitt’s Creek as Ted, the veterinarian boyfriend of Alexis—flaunts his physical comedy chops, as well as his impressive physique. He stumbles across fake snow piles like a newborn deer, experiencing the world with a wide-eyed wonder akin to Will Ferrell in Elf. But Mulligan does it while wearing only a strategically-placed scarf. Don’t worry, it was pinned down. Nothing wrong with a little eye candy for Christmas! Plus, Christmas Queen Lacy Chabert plays the co-lead.

  5. Jesper and Klaus

If you’re looking for a high-quality animated Christmas movie for kids, look no further than Klaus, the Oscar-nominated animated Netflix original about Santa’s origin story. Jason Schwartzman voices a postal-worker-in-training named Jesper, who is stationed in the Arctic and stumbles upon a mysterious figure named Klaus (J.K. Simmons. Klaus lives alone and has a special gift for making his own toys. Jesper convinces Klaus to use his talents to spread joy to the miserable town they live in. Sergio Pablos, a Spanish animator who created the wildly successful Despicable Me franchise for Universal Pictures, directed the film and wrote the story.

  6. Let It Snow Mitchell Hope,

Let It Snow is basically Love Actually for teenagers. The talented young cast includes teen favorites like Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Isabela Merced (formerly Isabela Moner, star of Dora: Lost City of Gold), Shamiek Moore (Into the Spider-Verse), Mitchell Hope (Descendants), and many more. The plot—which is based on a YA novel from John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—follows many different Christmas-themed love stories intertwining together.

  7. Madalen Mills and Forest Whitaker in Jingle Jangle

How about some fun, magic, and show tunes for Christmas? That’s what you’ll get with Netflix’s Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, an underrated gem. This musical stars Forest Whitaker as Jeronicus, a whimsical toymaker, and Madalen Mills as Journey, his genius granddaughter. Together, they must track down Jeronicus’s former apprentice (Keegan Michael-Key), who steals one of their most precious toys.

  8. Michael Fassbender as Harry Hole in "The Snowman," holding a gun in a snowy landscape.
    HBO

Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean you have to stop watching psychological thrillers. In fact, you can do that and stay in the spirit of the season by watching The Snowman, the thriller starring Michael Fassbender as a detective tracking down a serial killer who goes by “The Snowman.” You probably remember the ransom notes left by the killer, which were prime meme-fodder in 2017: “Mister police, you could have saved her, I gave you all the clues.”

  9. Kurt Russell in 'The Christmas Chronicles'

Of all of Netflix’s silly-and-fun Christmas originals, The Christmas Chronicles is still my favorite. Mostly because Kurt Russell plays a version of Santa Claus with genuine swagger. This is not your jolly, cartoon Santa—he rocks a red leather jacket and luxurious beard. He has a jail-time blues musical number where he wears sunglasses and gyrates his hips, for goodness sake. Sorry to Hot Frosty, but Christmas Chronicles has the hottest holiday leading man by far.

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
