Schittler, a Boston fan as a child, admitted that he was happy about ending their playoff chances in 2025.
“I’m happy that their season is done,” he said.
And he’s been enjoying a well-earned victory lap ever since.
The 24-year-old struck out 12 batters over eight scoreless innings, becoming the first rookie in MLB history to achieve such a feat in a playoff game.
Schlittler’s performance was not just a triumph on the mound but also a personal victory.
Having grown up in Walpole, Massachusetts, the game held special significance.
After the game, Schlittler expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, rejoicing in the effort and highlighting that Red Sox fans “crossed a line” by attacking his family members on social media.
“There was a line they crossed a little bit,” he acknowledged. “I’m a competitor. I’m gonna go out there and make sure I shut them down.
“But at the end of the day,” Schlittler added, “there’s not much they can say now.”
He also took to social media, posting “Drinking dat dirty water,” referencing is a 1965 song by The Standells written about Boston, which is a source of pride for the city.

He also posted on X “Not this year” at a Red Sox fan/gambling influencer who proclaimed “Sox in 3” prior to losing the series.
The win wasn’t only significant due to the angle of Schittler taking down his hometown team in legitimate historic fashion, but it writes another chapter to the continually blossoming rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox.

And, of course, it ended Boston’s season, where they lose to the Yankees despite winning Game 1 and having a shot to win Game 2 in the Bronx.
