Caitlin Clark’s brother blames refs for her latest injury in deleted post

Caitlin Clark is injured once again, and the Fever star’s brother is blaming the officiating. 

“Make no mistake, this is on the reffing,” Caitlin’s younger brother Colin wrote in a since-deleted post on X.

Late in Tuesday night’s game against the Sun at Boston’s TD Garden, Clark appeared to hurt her right groin, marking her fourth injury in the last three months. 

The 23-year-old has dealt with quad tightness in the preseason, a separate quad strain that kept her out five games in May and early June and then a left groin injury that preceded this most recent issue. 

Colin was perhaps alluding to one incident that unfolded in the third quarter Tuesday night, when his sister erupted in exasperation at referee Michael Price during a stoppage in play.

Clark was frustrated at a no-call, and she was having a seemingly normal conversation with Price until the referee said something and turned to walk away. 

The Iowa product appeared to yell, “Are you f–ing kidding me,” and “That’s just rude. Grow up,” at Price.

Or, more likely, Colin was referencing the pattern of no-calls that Clark has faced throughout this season, which has stirred up lots of debate in the WNBA world. 

In the Fever’s previous game, a 102-83 win over the Wings Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, ESPN commentator Rebecca Lobo spoke out on the fouls defenders are able to get away with on Clark, saying: “There’s a grab. There’s a hold. There’s another grab. I mean…” before play-by-play man Ryan Ruocco chimed in and added, “All of these are fouls.”

There was no obvious no-call on the play on which Clark got hurt Tuesday, but Colin seemed to be viewing the injury as a result of the wear-and-tear that comes with battling through significant contact on a game-to-game basis. 

After Tuesday’s game, which the Fever won 85-77, Fever coach Steph White told the Indianapolis Star that there was “no update” on Clark’s health.

“Just felt a little something in her groin, so we’ll get it evaluated and see what happens,” White said.

Clark’s status for Wednesday’s game against the Liberty and the WNBA All-Star Game is up in the air.
