The 47-year-old added, “He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.”
She clarified that their little ones see Willis, 70, at his second house, which is not far from theirs, “a lot” of the time.
Heming brings Mabel and Evelyn over for breakfast and dinner visits.
The “Die Hard” star, who is also the father of Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31, with ex-wife Demi Moore, resides with a full-time care team.
Heming made the reveal while promoting her forthcoming memoir, “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path,” which comes out Sept. 9.
In the book, she will document Willis’ health struggles — which became public in 2022 when the Golden Globe winner retired from acting due to an aphasia diagnosis.
This condition, according to Mayo Clinic, impacts speech, as well as the way individuals write and understand spoken and written language.
The following year, Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, which is a progressive neurological disorder characterized by language problems, behavioral changes and mobility issues.
Heming told viewers Tuesday that Willis’ loved ones now have a “different way” of communicating with him as his language skills are “going.”
In the rare update, she noted, “Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health, overall, it’s just his brain that is failing him.”
Heming, who became visibly emotional during the conversation with Sawyer, admitted it’s “hard” to see glimpses of her husband “because as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes.”
She said, “He has such, like, a hearty laugh and, you know, sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye or that smirk and, you know, I just get, like, transported.”
The actress began dating Willis in 2007, with the duo getting married in 2009 and renewing their vows a decade later.
