Bronx woman, 18, who died in NYPD custody over the weekend ID’d


An 18-year-old woman who died in NYPD custody on Saturday at a Bronx station house has been identified as Saniyah Cheatham.

Cheatham became unconscious while in custody at the 41 Precinct on Longwood Avenue in Hunts Point around 12:30 a.m., cops have said.

Police called for an ambulance and attempted to revive Cheatham, according to officials.

“Multiple officers performed CPR while awaiting EMS response,” police said in an official release about the woman’s death.

Paramedics rushed the teenager to Lincoln Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved, police said.

Police declined to say why the woman was in custody and cited an ongoing investigation being done by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.

Cheatham, of the Bronx, was identified by the NYPD on Monday.
