Broncos’ Jonathon Cooper doesn’t seem impressed by Jaxson Dart’s rise
Jaxson Dart has dazzled many following an impressive start to his NFL career, but his next opponent doesn’t appear to be one of them.
Speaking to the Denver media Wednesday ahead of this week’s home clash against the Giants, star Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper was asked about the rookie quarterback, whose exciting play has helped Big Blue win two of their last three games, including last Thursday’s upset against the Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

“He’s a young guy, he’s feelin’ himself a little bit,” Cooper said, according to the Denver Post. “He’s out there running around, he’s got the chain on, he’s dancing. I feel like everybody needs something.
‘We’ve went against QBs who have ran around in the pocket and have tried to do stuff with their legs. So, ain’t nothing we haven’t seen.”
The Giants’ 25th overall pick in this year’s draft, Dart was named the starting quarterback in Week 4 following a three-game skid to open the season with Russell Wilson under center.
Dart, along with rookie running back Cam Skattebo, injected new life into the offense, upsetting the Chargers at home on Sept. 28, with the QB’s moxie and signature necklace — his sister’s piece — on full display.
Although the Week 5 loss to the Saints is a game both likely want to forget — Dart turned the ball over three times while Skattebo lost a fumble that was returned for a New Orleans touchdown — the rookies redeemed themselves in primetime against the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Dart scrambled for 20 yards to give the Giants an early 7-3 lead while Skattebo, the Giants’ fourth-round pick back in April, tallied three touchdowns in the dominant 34-17 defeat.
Even with the Giants hype train barreling toward Mile High, the Broncos — who escaped London with a 13-11 victory over the winless Jets on Sunday — will be ready to pump those brakes.
“It’s truly building, and becoming a brotherhood,” Cooper said of one of the league’s best defensive units. “And when you have something like that, you don’t want to let the other guy down.
“When you playing for each other, that’s when it gets really special. And I feel like that’s the culture we’re building here.”
The 27-year-old Cooper, who is in his fifth season with the Broncos, has 4.5 sacks through six games, including two against the Jets.
Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. in Denver on Sunday afternoon.
