While promoting his bombshell memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” Federline said his kids “are trying to find a way to mend a bond between their mom.”
The dancer noted that he fully supports their efforts to bury the hatchet.
“They absolutely love their mom, right? I mean, they always, always have, always will,” he said. “It’s instilled in them. And I’ve always wanted for them to have a connection with their mom, the way I have with my mom.”
While Federline, 47, and the “Toxic” artist, 43, have not spoken since his book was published in October, his sons have been communicating with Spears.
“We haven’t talked specifically, but I know that she’s talked to our sons, which is good,” he said.
Federline explained how writing his book actually enabled their latest reconciliation initiatives.
“I know that a lot of people think that this book hurts that situation, but we’ve done everything else,” he said. “We’ve tried every single thing. And when you’re dealing with a situation like this, if I have to be the bad guy and everybody has to hate me, well, so be it.”
“I’ll do that for my kids to be able to have a relationship with their mother.”
Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, expressed his hope for a better relationship between his ex-wife and their kids.
“I’m really hoping that through all of this, through all this turmoil, that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. I see it, but it’s gonna be a difficult road and it’s gonna take time,” he said.
Spears has had a different outlook on Federline’s memoir, calling his portrayal of her as a mother false.
“Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she wrote in a lengthy post on X on Oct. 15.
The pop star also accused Federline of “constant gaslighting” and claimed she has “always pleaded and screamed” to have a relationship with their sons.
“I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking,” she wrote. “I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
In his tell-all memoir, Federline made several claims about Spears, including accusing her of wishing her kids dead and punching Sean Preston. He also claimed she used cocaine while breastfeeding.
Federline gained custody of their sons following Spears’ public meltdown in the mid-2000s. Due to her mental struggles, she was placed on a restrictive legal conservatorship, which ended after 13 years in 2021.
Since gaining her freedom back, she has continued to raise concerns for her well-being — most recently, displaying erratic behavior behind the wheel and showing her home covered in dog poop.
Spears briefly deleted her Instagram amid mounting worries, but returned to social media earlier this month with a lingerie post.
“So much has happened this year, it’s crazy,” she captioned the post.
